ROCK SPRINGS — April Moreno, the co-founder of Sweetwater Against Trafficking, gave a presentation on the sobering realities of human trafficking during the Rotary Club’s Nov. 19 meeting.
She began her presentation with the startling statistic that 1 in 5 vehicles seen driving along an interstate is likely to be carrying someone who is being trafficked.
Moreno then explained how Sweetwater Against Trafficking began. The founder of the nonprofit organization, Christal Martin, has a daughter who was exploited online as a teenager. This caused Martin to become aware of how real and dangerous the threat of human trafficking is, and she decided to do something to educate others and fight back. She reached out for help, and Moreno, who was getting ready to go on a missions trip to help victims of trafficking, answered the call. Together they started Sweetwater Against Trafficking.
